Space and design layout:

There are a lot of factors to consider when initially designing the layout. The first step is to determine the dimensions of your bathroom space, and where the existing wires and pipes are located. Room size - Enlarging the space of the bathroom:

Adding extra space to your bathroom is an immediate improvement and gives you a multitude of design options. For example, a built-in linen closet, or installing a double vanity or soaker tub.

Vanity:

A vanity is a key component that is functional, provides storage, and is used everyday. There are many options, taking into account the size (small/compact, or a larger double vanity), storage capacity, and design aesthetic. You can select the style, color, and finish that fits your personality and design preferences.

Custom shower/tub:

An inviting shower/tub is one of the most important features in a bathroom space. We can provide samples of materials and design options for a custom shower. The most commonly used tile options are: ceramic, porcelain, glass, metal, and natural stone. Design style options are practically endless - size, shape, placement, colors, patterns, mosaic. Our team can create a design plan that showcases your personality and fits within your budget; we have years of experience doing custom shower and tile work.

Flooring:

There are a few types of flooring that can be functional and practical in a bathroom - such as ceramic tile, porcelain tile, luxury vinyl, and stone. From a health and safety standpoint, it’s important to choose flooring that is slip resistant and humidity resistant. We typically recommend tile. Tile is versatile, durable, lasts for years, and is easy to clean. Another advantage of tile is from an aesthetic perspective; you have a multitude of options (style, size, color, finish) that can transform the bathroom space and reflect your personal style.

Moisture control and proper ventilation:

If steps aren’t taken to manage the moisture and ensure proper ventilation of the bathroom space, there can be serious consequences to your health (such as a serious negative reaction to mold) and can also cause damage to the space (to the insulation, wood decay). Proper ventilation and airflow is important for your health as well as the maintenance of the space. The type and placement of the ventilation fan will need to be taken into consideration. It’s also beneficial to add a window into your shower design for ventilation; there are plenty of textured and frosted glass options to ensure privacy.

Plumbing fixtures:

When selecting plumbing fixtures (sink, toilet, tub/shower, faucets) there are many options to choose from. This is an opportunity to make an eco-friendly choice by looking for brands and models that have water saving features. We also recommend investing in a water filter for health reasons. Lighting:

Good lighting is needed for shaving, fixing hair, applying makeup, and getting ready for your day. When planning the lighting for your bathroom space, take into consideration the type and placement of lighting fixtures. It’s best to use a combination of light sources - natural light from a window or skylight, and a variety of light fixtures. There are general overhead lights (some of which are equipped with a dimmer switch), recessed lighting, and light fixtures for the vanity mirror area.

Painting:

Painting is an easy and inexpensive way to freshen up the bathroom and infuse the space with your personal style. In general, we always recommend paint with low VOCs for your health. For bathroom remodels, we recommend using a water-based latex paint that is moisture and mildew resistant (and also low in VOCs); for the finish, we suggest semi-gloss or gloss.
